Financial Freedom - You Can Have it Too!
To Become Financially Free – Manage Your Money
In a way that works toward financial freedom
We’re going through this subject now because it’s one that I enjoy, and one that I think most people are interested in. I often hear, “I would like to be a millionaire,” or “I would like the lifestyle that a millionaire has”. I can tell you, having spoken to numerous millionaires, having been in debt with very little income myself, and now being financially free, that oftentimes there’s a misperception of what millionaires are doing, and what that lifestyle is actually like. We all need to know how to achieve those things that we ultimately are looking for the most, what we need to do between the time that we’re making a low income and the time that we’re making a high income, and the habits that we need to put in place in order to achieve that long term lifestyle that we’re looking for.
The first thing that I’m going to talk about and cover is one of the basics concepts in money management – which is the biggest part of having money. This is the ‘jars’ concept, which is simply this: taking a percentage of the money that’s coming in, and putting it aside towards all of those things that we are always talking about. We have a play jar, we have a long term savings account, we have an education jar, we have a charity jar, we have a necessities jar.
We have an area for all of these pieces, and the breakdown of your income into these, is 55% into necessities, 10% into most of the other jars, and 5% into charity. Some of you may choose to have the charity at a higher percentage - 10% maybe, based on your personal belief system - but that is the basic concept, to have money allocated for the most important things in life.
I want to impress on you that, today, you can be contributing towards all of the things in that list. You can have anything you want … even eternal peace and to be married to Claudia Schiffer … joking. I do believe this, though. I believe that you can, I can, anyone can have what their heart truly desires. This is true at least in the North American society, where we have the freedom to go out and contribute our gifts, and share in the financial abundance - here you can have anything you want. The caveat to that is that you can’t have everything you want right this moment. You can have anything you want, you just can’t have everything you want this moment, and that applies whether you’re broke or whether you have a billion dollars. You simply can’t have it all, everything that exists out there right at the moment.
